"Our Hearts Are Broken Today..."

President Obama, while speaking to the nation in response to the tragic shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut paused several times during his speech to compose himself.



As he said during his speech, "I react not as a president, but as anybody else would, as a parent." His silence speaks volumes to his genuine anguish over the deaths of 20 innocent children.

I came across this obituary in the New York Times, of Elaine Kaufman, the owner of  Elaine's restaurant, located on the Upper East side of Manhattan, who died two years ago today at the age of 81. She opened her restaurant in 1963, along an unfashionable block on Second Avenue just north of 88th Street. Comedian Alan King once described the restaurant as “decorated like a stolen car”.
