...and the people that you knew at Elaine's.


I came across this obituary in the New York Times, of Elaine Kaufman, the owner of  Elaine's restaurant, located on the Upper East side of Manhattan, who died two years ago today at the age of 81. She opened her restaurant in 1963, along an unfashionable block on Second Avenue just north of 88th Street. Comedian Alan King once described the restaurant as “decorated like a stolen car”. This is a profile of her from June 2009 issue of Vanity Fair. Quite a character.
